Ultimately, I believe we are all human—doing our best to live meaningful lives in a beautiful yet challenging world. I practice with this mindset and with the belief in our innate capacity to heal when given the right support and guidance. My therapeutic approach is warm, compassionate, and client-centered. I view my clients as the experts in their own lives, holding the answers within themselves. While finding this path can be difficult, with the right support, growth and transformation are truly possible.
I am a licensed therapist in New Jersey (LPC) and New York (LMHC), with specialized training in the treatment of trauma, anxiety disorders, and depression. I am certified to provide Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) to help reduce symptoms of depression, trauma, and other forms of emotional distress. Additionally, I am certified in the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)—a therapeutic intervention that supports nervous system regulation through filtered music.
I hold a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Forensics and Addiction, as well as additional certification in trauma treatment. With over ten years of experience in the field, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based practices in my work. My experience spans diverse settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private practice.
My name is Elizabeth DeAngelis and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NYC. I earned my Ed.M at Columbia University in mental health counseling. I also received an MA in psychology and religion at Union Theological Seminary. At Union I received specialized training about clients' existential/spiritual concerns. My goal is to offer clients a safe space to process emotions without judgment. I want to help clients explore their past and present stressors to overcome blockages in life.
Attention, impulse control, and trauma-related issues are often misunderstood, stigmatized, and poorly treated. With time and treatment, patients who are affected learn to recognize and compensate for their symptoms. Self-acceptance brings appreciation for their own energy, strengths, and resilience. Many continue to exciting lives of high achievement and satisfaction. It is my privilege to accompany you on this journey.
I have spent a majority of my training working across the lifespan from childhood to adulthood, and within family systems. I am trained in helping clients with stress and anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, family conflicts, motivation, self-esteem, confidence, and depression. Some of the individuals that I work with are in recovery from eating and substance-related disorders. My clients often face school and work avoidance and may find it difficult to do things they once enjoyed.
